Fort Greene History

One of Brooklyn's most ethnically diverse neighborhoods surround a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.

A walking tour exploring one of Brooklyn’s most diverse neighborhoods, and area remarkably historic and cutting-edge contemporary all at the same time.   Fort Greene boasts lovely 19th century architecture; one of the oldest African American communities in Brooklyn; and a moving memorial tomb to the Revolutionary War prisoners of British prison ships in nearby Wallabout Bay.  Join us as we stroll the streets of this wonderful neighborhood with forays into Clinton Hill and the area surrounding the Pratt Institute. Stops could include sites associated with the Underground Railroad, Spike Lee, Marianne Moore, Stanford White, Richard Wright, and the Arbuckle family.

This walking tour was originally developed in association with the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation.
