•The 24th Annual Christmas Day Jewish Lower East Side Tours

Since 1991, Big Onion has lead this special Christmas Day outing! Come join us on a very special walk exploring the history and architecture of the Jewish East Side – one of the few Manhattan neighborhoods open on Christmas Day.  Come stroll through more than 150 years of Jewish history on the East Side. Our tour combines historic and religious sites, politics and people of what was once the largest Jewish community in the world. Stops could include: the founding site of the B’nai B’rith, the Jewish Daily Forward building, the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue, and sites associated with Rabbi Jacob Joseph, Abraham Cahan, and Lillian Wald.

This tour is a Big Onion original – now often copied but never duplicated!

"For most of my life, I believed independent travel was the only route to the real unfiltered stuff. I eschewed group experiences like the plague, most of all, anything incorporating the word tour. My mistake. I’ve gained some of my best travel memories from being herded around with a bunch of strangers on a Big Onion Walking Tour."
